Ian’s collages continue his exploration of the land and sea in abstract form. Ian progresses his subject matter by reusing paint pallets collected over the years to create colourful and textural montages.
Through this process, Ian has found he can also incorporate some of his earlier paintings, particularly those that have been flood damaged. Rather than destroy several large canvases, Ian has chosen to cut up these damaged paintings and rework the pieces on new canvases, producing a reinterpretation of his earlier figurative work.
Highly symbolic and textural, Ian’s ‘paintings on paintings’ create new from old, adding another facet to his creativity.
