Ian’s early works are highly expressive, employing strong figurative motifs and a creative approach to composition and subject matter.
The early inspiration of his rural surrounds, together with social commentaries, his family and friends are all recurring elements in Ian’s works. As with his more abstract pieces, his early paintings show a solid use of texture and sensuality in their surface, which form the foundation of all his works.
