Inspired by his years of sailing, Ian’s seascapes conjure a sense of conflict similar to his landscapes, with vibrant symbols challenging one another and the elements. Graphic shapes appear against intense blue oceans as racing yachts head for the start line.
Textured surfaces give way to subtle changes in colour, with figurative yachts trapped in battle. Again utilising a bird-eye view, the defined harbours, shorelines, marks and buoys convey the adversity and unrelenting pursuit of ocean racing. The overall effect of these works is an abstract but immediate recognition of sailing.
